Letitia Byrd, a former SOS board member, passed away on February 14, 2018. Letitia Byrd was a force throughout our community.

Letitia first learned about SOS when she was a counselor at Huron High School while trying to assist a student whose family was having difficulties. She spent a great deal of time telling everyone she encountered (and we know that was practically everyone in the Ann Arbor community) about the wonderful work of SOS.

Letitia served on the SOS Board starting in the late 1980s. During her tenure, SOS expanded its food pantry, started the shelter program, and developed integrated supportive services tailored for homeless families.

She served as Board president for two terms, and was nominated as Citizen of the Year by The Ann Arbor News in 1997.  Letitia left the board officially in 2007. She remained supportive to SOS in the years that followed, by participating on the Consumer Advisory Board, which honored the former clients of SOS and serving on the inaugural Road to Home Fundraiser event committee.

Letitia was an integral part of SOS, and so many other organizations in our community. It is with a heavy heart that we all say farewell to Letitia. Though she is gone, she is not forgotten. We will continue to cherish the warm and fun memories we shared.
